La Liga Champions

La Liga Favourites

Spain’s La Liga has for the most part been about two teams; Barcelona and Real Madrid. They are the kings of Spanish football and are arguably the two greatest current club teams in the world. Madrid have won 32 La Liga titles while Barcelona are not that far behind with 24.

Atletico Madrid are the only team that seem capable of matching them at the moment but they have only won the league once in recent times, back in 2014. In only 3 out of the last 16 seasons the title hasn’t gone to Madrid or Barca. In saying all that, Leicester City showed that miracles in football can happen and perhaps an unlikely Spanish side could go all the way.

1. Barcelona 8/11

Barca are the current favourites for the title. Winning the league this season would give them their third championship in a row. Everybody knows the danger posed by the Messi, Suarez and Neymar trio but there are a number of others playing top football this season. Rafinha is one of them. The Brazilian attacking midfielder has scored some vital goals this season and is proving to be very influential.

Manager Luis Enrique has a massive squad full of some of the world’s top players and even when injuries strike, the team is still capable of beating any opposition. This season they have been without a number of first team players including Andres Iniesta, Jordi Alba and Gerard Pique but are still clocking up the wins.

Barcelona fans will know that their team is in for a long season as they vie for top spot with Real Madrid but with the firepower they possess, they are a great bet to win the title yet again.

2. Real Madrid 7/4

Madrid are never far off when it comes to winning trophies and they are desperate to get the La Liga title back from their rivals. After going through a patch of poor form during the early stages of the season they are now well back on track and the goals are starting to flow once more. Ronaldo appears to be firing on all cylinders now and when he is in the mood he can singlehandedly win games for Madrid.

Alvaro Morata’s return to the club had some skeptical at first but he seems to be fitting in nicely and provides Madrid with a different attacking approach.

Zinedine Zidane has some work ahead of him if he is to win his first La Liga title as a manager but he has the squad to pull it off. At odds of 7/4 there is plenty to be optimistic about as they have a fantastic chance of once again reigning in Spain.

Roma are looking dangerous so far in the Serie A and the Europa League and they will want to keep building up confidence as the season wears on. A really decent bet they may be.

3. Atletico Madrid 11/2

Diego Simeone has done one fine job with this team and they are now renowned as one of the strongest teams in European football. For the last four seasons they have finished no lower than third and won the league in the 2013/14 season.

Up front they have Antoine Griezmann who is now considered one of the top strikers in world football. Yannick Carrasco and Koke are also world class players who the team rely on to keep them up with the likes of Real and Barca.

If anyone is going to beat the two top dogs then Atletico are sure favourites and they will be confident of sticking with them in the title race throughout the season. Can Simeone once again pull off some magic? These are great odds which may be worth having a sneaky punt on.

4. Sevilla 100/1

After the top three there is a massive gulf in class as reflected by the odds. Sevilla have consistently done well in Europe but are they capable of beating the best in Spain to become champions once again? The one and only time they won the Spanish league was in the 1945/46 season so to say they are desperate to win it again would be an understatement.

Unfortunately for them they are unable to compete with the bigger clubs in the transfer market and more often than not have to settle for lesser known players. If anyone was brave enough to put some money on Sevilla defying all the odds and becoming champions they would receive an insane payout from the bookies.
